The Minister of Justice of Georgia opened the International Conference of Notaries

The Minister of Justice of Georgia, Ms. Tea Tsulukiani opened the International Conference of Notaries dedicated to the 20th Anniversary of Independent Notariat of Georgia. Such a large-scale conference where the Chairman of International Union of Notaries and 14 member countries of the Union participated was held for the first time in Georgia.

The conference was attended by officials of the International Union of Notaries: President of the Union Mr. Daniel Sédar Senghor and President of the European Affairs Commission Mr.  Pierre Becqué. The delegates from different European countries (Germany, France, Switzerland, Hungary, Estonia ...) arrived at the conference.

The conference will support to share the experiences of European countries in Georgia and improve the image of the notary, as a legal advisor.

The conference was dedicated to the social role of the notary, notary’s duty to regulate the legal relations; to strengthen the role of Notary, as a legal adviser in protecting the property rights of the participant parties and raising the legal awareness of the parties in the process of concluding the contracts, property transactions.

The conference was attended by the representatives of the Ministry of Justice, Business Association and the diplomatic corps.

The Notariat of Georgia was founded in 1996.

Since 2007, the Notary Chamber of Georgia is a member of the International Union of Notaries and is actively involved in the international activities, shares the recommendations of Union. The Georgian notary legislation is based on the basic principles of Latin Notaries.

Since 2009, all notary acts have been electronically registered.

The online notary services were introduced in 2010 and the citizens of Georgia can certify the document from anywhere in the world.

For enhancing the availability of notary services, the Minister of Justice initiated a campaign "Notary for all regions" in 2013.

It became mandatory to appoint notaries for three-year term in mountainous areas and in municipalities where the notary service is not available based on the legislative amendments made in December 2015.

In 2016, the Minister of Justice appointed the notaries in six municipalities. Notary services are also available in the public centers for the rural population.

This year, the Notary Chamber of Georgia upon the recommendation of the International Union of Notaries has begun an active campaign to raise the legal awareness of the population. The citizens are provided free of charge the legal advices from notaries in the Notary Chamber of Notaries every Saturday. This campaign will also start for the people living in the villages.
